Milton Ulladulla Bypass – Now is the Time to Speak Up – AGAIN!
Transport NSW have released the concept plan for the Milton Ulladulla Bypass (only taken some 40 years plus). During the design phase, various options were explored to ensure the bypass design meets the project objectives. But was the community was never listened to! regardless of how many community meetings they held over the decades.
No media release or communications – just a facebook post by our Federal member around 7am on Friday 19 Sept. And sadly that how some people found out they were losing the home, land and business via a Facebook post – disgusting. An email then arrived to them at 7.30am on the same day (but the cat was already out of the bag), they had received a phone call the previous day regarding “some land” acquisition but the facebook post informed them – no it was their entire property and home.
The NSW Transport preferred option bypass divides our whole community into three, land lock the residences out at west Ulladulla. No more I will just slip into town and get some milk, its will be now a road trip (pack the car). The preferred option bypass route is somewhat more of an ancillary road and out dated for today’s traffic needs.
Many roads will now have imposed dead ends on existing main thoroughfare roads in the clusters of residential areas. In addition to the maze of off ramps, roundabouts and dead ends being proposed impacting properties, homes and businesses just west of Ulladulla.
The preferred option has not addressed or considered the expansion and growth of the residential zones in the area for the last 30 years when reviewing possible routes laid out back then.
The first surveys for the bypass was back in the mid 1950’s; pubic meetings held in the 1970s and 1980s; the Milton-Ulladulla bypass, with its inner west route designated and gazetted in 1997, today remains an unresolved issue. The current preferred design has altered with an additional maze of round abouts and off ramps in a illogic location as a exit road to Ulladulla; and clusters of dead-end streets (no access). The design concept changes to the inner west route designated and gazetted in 1997, in 2025 has now resulted in some people losing the homes and properties (which was never the case of the 1997 route).
Over the years optional routes have been given for community feedback and Department of Transport has not taken them into consideration or the expansion of our residential areas in the last few decades.
Yes we need a BYPASS to address current and future traffic needs not an idea created some 30 years ago.
One of our readers a holiday maker from Canberra said – that’s close to to town how is that a bypass – its just the back road still but crosses over to Little Forest.
Another of our readers said the traffic will still be bumper to bumper south of Canberra Cres down to Termeil in peak times such as school holidays and many a weekend and sometimes just a general day of the week.
Whether you support or oppose the 2025 preferred route, now is the time to speak up not later.
